Hef's approved - "OK color page H" in red pencil - loose-style gag rough, 8 1/2 x 11 on 24 lb. paper
first pencil rough (image area 6 1/2 x 8 on light tracing vellum) blocks out characters and sets the scene
later pencil rough (image area 6 1/2 x 8 1/2 on light tracing vellum) - Doug added background shoppers, store merchandise and check-out counter details, and specifics for both the girl's and guy's clothing. He also moved the Sneyd signature to the lower left of the store check-out counter.
Changes in a follow-up pencil rough included: "cleaning up" the background with minimal store lettering and only 2 shoppers. Doug also repositioned the guy's hands and changed the cap to a hat. However, in the final art, he went back to a cap and did a "new" position for the guy's hands.
