Original Artwork: Blond in Surf

Doug's 11 x 17 watercolor original, Blond in Surf, was rendered on Arches of France 100% cotton, acid-free art board using Dr. Ph. Martin's aniline dyes.

To see more of his artwork, visit his CAF Premium Gallery or check Upcoming Events on the blog for his next comics-cartoon convention appearances.

In addition to doing commissioned portrait sketches at conventions, Doug also sells original artwork, limited edition prints, sketchbooks and personalized copies of Unpublished Sneyd, which features his 100 favorite Playboy gag rough rejects.

Doug explains, "In the years since my first color full-page cartoon (September 1964) was published in Playboy, I've submitted thousands of cartoon gag roughs.  Of course, not all can be selected for final art and ultimate publication in the magazine.  So, it seemed only fitting to share some of my favorite unpublished gag roughs with readers who enjoy Playboy's distinctive brand of humor."

MegaCon: Doug Sketches Kelly

Doug's commissioned portrait sketches are always popular with comics-cartoon convention attendees.

Kelly was one of several commissions Doug did during MegaCon in Orlando last month; he offers either a 9 x 12 or a 10 x 14 on Arches of France watercolor paper as well as an 11 x 17 on Arches of France art board, which he also uses in rendering his Playboy finishes.

While sketching Kelly for an 11 x 17, they talked about Doug's appearance as a Featured Guest at Super Con in Miami July 4-7;  Kelly and her husband may also attend the 4-day convention.

Doug will be a Featured Guest this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 26-28 at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo; he'll be selling original art, limited edition prints and personalized copies of Unpublished Sneyd as well as doing commissions and portrait sketches.

Lisa Gets Creative With Costumes for MegaCon

Doug and I saw Lisa in a lovely, elaborate costume she was wearing at the Emerald City Comicon and were disappointed that we didn't get a photo with her during the 3-day Seattle event March 1st-3rd.

Luckily, she stopped by to meet Doug during MegaCon - in Orlando March 15-17, 2013 - and we had a chance to talk with her and get some great photos. She also mentioned she would have new costumes for Dragon*Con in Atlanta August 30th-September 2nd.

Doug will again be a Featured Guest at the 4-day event.

Emerald City Comicon: Watercolor Originals and Commissioned Sketches

John and Denae purchased one of Doug's 11 x 17 watercolor originals, rendered on Arches of France art board using Dr. Ph. Martin's aniline dyes.

Rhondi and her husband purchased a pencil commission of Wonderwoman.

Doug brings a portfolio of 11 x 17 watercolor originals to each comics-cartoon convention and also accepts commissions; if attending Fan Expo Vancouver April 20-21, stop by his table to see original artwork, 11 x 17 limited edition prints and sketchbooks.

Attendees can also bring in copies of The Art of Doug Sneyd for a free signing.  The 248-page hardcover book, published by Dark Horse Comics, was a 2012 Eisner Award nominee in the Best Humor Publication category.  It features 270 of Doug's 450+ full-page color cartoons published in Playboy magazine since September 1964.
