As a final step in rendering artwork, Doug uses a mirror to review a reverse image.  He does this to identify possible mistakes or omissions that he might have overlooked and gotten used to.

Dean Yeagle Will Moderate Panel on Doug's 50 Years With Playboy

Dean Yeagle will moderate the panel "Doug Sneyd - 50 Years With Playboy" at Big Wow ComicFest in San Jose, CA on Saturday, May 17 at 3 p.m. in Rm. C.

Doug will talk about a number of the cartoons from his 50 years as a full-page color cartoonist for Playboy as well as his career as an illustrator-cartoonist in newspapers and magazines in the U.S. and Canada.

Brian Peck, who is coordinating panels for Big Wow ComicFest Saturday and Sunday, May 17-18, said Dean - an animator and cartoonist, known for his character Mandy - has a unique perspective since both he and Doug render full-page color cartoons
for Playboy.

Doug's first cartoon was published in the September 1964 issue of Playboy.

Unpublished Sneyd: 100 Favorite Playboy Gag Rough Rejects - p. 26 Original Framed

Since 1964 Doug has submitted thousands of gag roughs to Playboy.  Of course, not all can be selected for final art and ultimate publication in the magazine.

Unpublished Sneyd, now in a second printing, features Doug's 100 unpublished favorites;  these gag rough originals, both B & W and color, will be available at Big Wow ComicFest May 17-18 in San Jose, California.

Doug liked the Playboy gag rough reject on p. 26 so much that he had the original framed for his personal collection.

Meeting Fans in Lexington, Kentucky, Returning to San Jose, California May 17-18

Doug enjoyed meeting fans during his first guest appearance in Lexington, Kentucky.

Christopher (from Lexington) purchased a 10 x 14 watercolor original from Doug's new collection, done in a loose, colorful style yet featuring a classic, lovely Sneyd blond.  These originals, like his 450+ full-page color cartoons published - since September 1964 - in Playboy, are rendered on Arches of France cold press watercolor paper using Dr. Ph. Martin's aniline dyes.

Doug's next appearance will be in San Jose, California Saturday and Sunday, May 17-18 - exhibiting at Big Wow ComicFest;  Doug's first comics-cartoon convention was in San Jose in May 2007.

Ivy (a fitness instructor from Lexington) was pleased with her pencil portrait sketch; available sizes for these convention commissions are:  9 x 12, 10 x 14 and 16 x 20.

11 x 17 limited edition prints, especially a classic winking bunny, are always popular with convention attendees. (A new Wonderwoman print debuted in Lexington.)

Doug's published 5 convention sketchbooks, including Playboy Preliminaries.

The Art of Doug Sneyd features 270 of Doug's full-page color Playboy cartoons.  It was published by Dark Horse Books and nominated, in 2012, for an Eisner Award in the Best Humor Publication category.  Doug is happy to sign copies of the 248-page hardcover book, at no charge.
