Happy New Year!!!

In the years since Doug's first full-page color cartoon was published in Playboy - September 1964, he's submitted thousands of gag roughs to the magazine.  Of course, not all can be selected for final art and ultimate publication.

Here's one of his unpublished New Year's favorites - enjoy! - and have a fantastic start to 2014!!!

Dragon*Con: Meeting Author Brian Kesinger

This was the second year Doug's booth at Dragon*Con was adjacent to Baby Tattoo Books; the publisher's featured guest this year was Brian Kesinger, who stayed busy meeting fans of his Victorian steampunk art and selling copies of Walking Your Octopus:  A Guide to the Domesticated Cephalopod - a delightful, beautifully illustrated book about Victoria and her pet land octopus Otto.

The illustrator, author and animator has worked at Walt Disney Studios since the late 1990s.

Dragon*Con: Visit from Balloon Artist

Jason Szabo, a professional balloon artist and stiltwalker, and his wife stopped by Doug's booth at Dragon*Con to say "hello" and also give me my very own Playboy balloon art. Love it!

Doug and I first met Jason and his wife at MegaCon in Orlando last March, but we never saw them in costume - nor Jason on stilts - until one evening in the lobby at the Hyatt Regency.  They rate a 10+!!!

Happy Holidays!

One of Doug's first freelance jobs was creating textbook covers and illustrations for W.J. Gage, Ltd., a publisher that would later become a steady client.  He also produced illustrations for other Canadian publishers and illustrated features for several magazines, including Toronto Star Weekly, Chatelaine and Toronto Life.

Later, he expanded his work to include single-panel hard news cartoons, which first appeared in the Toronto Star, Canada's largest newspaper.  Doug Sneyd was also syndicated across North America by the Toronto Star Syndicate.

We hope you enjoy the humor of this holiday political cartoon!

Dragon*Con: 4 Busy Days in Atlanta

Doug's pencil portraits, either 10 x 14 or 11 x 17 on Arches of France watercolor paper or art board, make great convention souvenirs.  Rose (from suburban Atlanta) had one commissioned opening day - Friday, August 30.

Matt (from Tuscaloosa, Alabama) purchased a 10 x 14 watercolor original from Doug's new collection; the work, although less stylized than what appears in Playboy, features a classic Sneyd lady with a vibrant background aniline dye wash.

Like Matt, Brian Stelfreeze, also a featured guest at Dragon*Con this year, purchased a 10 x 14 watercolor original from Doug's new collection.

Stelfreeze has worked for nearly every major American comic book publisher and is one of the original members of Atlanta's Gaijin Studios.

Commissions also kept Doug busy; Clay (from Knoxville, Tennessee) requested an ink sketch of Psylocke.

Sales of The Art of Doug Sneyd were strong during the 4 days of Dragon*Con.  Brian (from Salt Lake City, Utah) purchased a personalized copy of the 248-page hardcover book, published by Dark Horse Books.

The 2012 Eisner Award nominee in the Best Humor Publication category features 270 of Doug's 450+ Playboy cartoons.

Swimsuit Ladies

It may be December on the calendar, but that doesn't mean Doug's gorgeous gals stop wearing swimsuits!

These 10 x 14 watercolor originals are rendered on Arches of France cold press 140 lb. watercolor paper using Dr. Ph. Martin's aniline dyes.

2013 Annual Bunny Hutch Dragon*Con Kick Off Party and Costume Contest

The annual Bunny Hutch Kick Off Party and Costume Contest at the PULSE bar at the Marriott Marquis Hotel was an unofficial start to Dragon*Con festivities over Labor Day weekend in Atlanta this year.

As more convention attendees checked in Thursday evening, August 29, the hotel lobby was packed; bunnies, playboys and friends met in the PULSE bar balcony for the party and costume contest, hosted by Stormy O'dell, Jim Piazza and Lisa Bregent.

Lisa (in pink) coordinated registration for the costume contest and took pictures of participants because there were 7 costume award categories.

The flyer promoting the annual Bunny Hutch Kick Off Party and Costume Contest read:  "As per tradition, we welcome all bunnies and playboys - from classic cocktail to crossover madness, we love you all as long as you're in ears and tails or a smoking jacket and you behave like you would at the Mansion!"

Doug was a celebrity guest along with model Veronica Smith and artists Todd Lockwood, Joseph Corsentino and Donny Ha Corsentino.

Bunnies and playboys - cocktails and cottontails!  It was a fun start to Dragon*Con!
