First Commission at Pensacon

Doug is always busy with commissions at conventions; Anthony, an exhibitor at Pensacon, talked with Doug about an hour before the 3-day convention opened to the public because he had to be at his booth throughout the day.

He returned at the close of the first day and was . . . pleased with the commission!

Seville Quarter Hosts Pensacon Special Events

Pensacon organized a busy weekend event schedule for convention attendees, artists and exhibitors:  movie screenings, gallery night specials, an improv show, live bands, nerd karaoke, costume and dance parties, etc.

Seville Quarter in downtown Pensacola, Florida hosted the Welcome to Pensacon 80-90's Party Friday evening, February 21 and a Bunny Party Saturday evening, February 22.  Doug talked with attendees throughout the evening and also signed 11 x 17 limited edition prints - with all proceeds from sales donated to the Manna Food Bank, which operates 6 pantries in Escambia and Santa Rosa (Florida) counties.

Cocktail waitresses at Seville Quarter joined in the fun at the Bunny Party!

Pensacon reproduced Doug's Blond in Green Bikini original for the convention's fundraising effort assisting the Manna Food Bank.

During the Bunny Party, Doug talked with attendees, personalized his 11 x 17 prints and posed for photos.

Personalizing Copies of Unpublished Sneyd at Conventions

In addition to original artwork, Playboy preliminary pencil and color roughs, limited edition prints and sketchbooks, personalized copies of Unpublished Sneyd are popular with attendees at comics-cartoon conventions.

Since Doug's first full-page color cartoon was published in Playboy - September 1964, he's submitted thousands of cartoon gag roughs to the magazine.  Of course, not all can be selected for final art and ultimate publication.

Doug selected his 100 favorite gag rough rejects for Unpublished Sneyd; each copy is personalized with a B & W profile sketch of a classic Sneyd girl-next-door (see Doug drawing a sketch for Artur's copy).

Copies of both Unpublished Sneyd and The Art of Doug Sneyd, a 248-page hardcover book published by Dark Horse and a 2012 Eisner Award nominee in the Best Humor Publication category, will be available at the Lexington Comic and Toy Convention March 14-16.

Convention Commissions

Most of Doug's commissions at comics-cartoon conventions are in copies of The Art of Doug Sneyd or Unpublished Sneyd, fans' sketchbooks or on Arches of France watercolor paper and art board that we have with us.

However, at the Dallas Comic Con a few years ago, a collector asked Doug to do a profile sketch of a classic Sneyd girl-next-door on a baseball - unique, but not a problem!

If attending the Lexington Comic and Toy Convention March 14-16, stop by Doug's table in Artist Alley and ask him about doing a commission - even on a baseball!
