Renee, Michael and Doug Exhibit with Big Wow Art at SDCC

Doug first met Renee Witterstaetter and Michael Golden in 2007 in San Jose, California.

It was great seeing them again with the Big Wow Art group in San Diego this year; the three are also Special Guests at Wizard World New Orleans January 8-10, 2016.

Jenny Klein Visits Doug

Jenny, a full-time writer on the popular television series Supernatural, has been one of Doug's gag writers for several years.  It's a tradition to have her visit the Big Wow Art booth during SDCC.

The eleventh season of Supernatural premiered on Wednesday, October 7th.

SDCC Photos with Tatianna

It's always fun to get a visit from Tatianna, who we met in 2007 at Doug's first comics-cartoon convention in San Jose, California.

Mark Texiera Exhibits With Big Wow Art

Mark Texeira, best known for his work on Marvel's Ghost Rider, exhibited with the Big Wow Art group this year.  When not talking with fans or working on commissions, he personalized copies of A Hero's Death, a 48-page graphic novel co-developed with writer Richardo Sanchez.

During SDCC, Mark bought the final pencil rough for Doug's April 2008 full-page, color "Tex's Ranch" cartoon, p. 91 in Playboy and reproduced on p. 239 in The Art of Doug Sneyd.

caption:  "You know, Tex, I don't always ride sidesaddle."

Baby Tattoo Books

Baby Tattoo Books always has an interesting, unique booth, featuring an eclectic collection of visual books by contemporary artists, including Brian Kesinger, Coop, Travis Louie and the artists of Sketch Theatre

Brian Kesinger creates steampunk art that "celebrates Victorian fashion and beauty with a dash of geekiness."  He was busy at the Baby Tattoo booth talking with fans about Walking Your Octopus: A Guide to the Domesticated Cephalopod and new projects involving Victoria and Otto, her live-in land octopus who is a friend, butler and pet.

One-of-a-kind mechanical figures and sculptures by Thomas Kuntz were also on display at the Baby Tattoo booth at SDCC.

Bob and Rani Self, who founded Baby Tattoo Books in 2003.

1980 SCOOPS Cartoon: U.S. - Soviet Relations

As current relations between the U.S. and Russia sour, I remember seeing Doug's 1980 SCOOPS news cartoon; there was similar discord between the two countries, led at the time by Jimmy Carter and Leonid Brezhnev.

For nearly 20 years, starting in the mid-1960s, Doug's SCOOPS and Doug Sneyd news cartoons appeared daily in newspapers across North America.

Andrea Featured in Doug's New Vampirella Sketchbook

Doug's done several Vampirella commissions so it was easy to work up a 24-page sketchbook to debut at SDCC this year.

In 2013 at SDCC, I took a picture of Doug and Andrea, dressed as Vampirella; we featured the photo on p. 3 of the new sketchbook and were happy when she stopped by the Big Wow Art booth so we could give her a personalized copy.

Kei and Bobby Visit Big Wow Art Booth

Kei Acedera and Bobby Chiu from Imaginism Studios always stop by the Big Wow Art booth during SDCC so Doug and I can catch up on the group's new projects; we met Kei and Bobby on a flight from Toronto to San Diego in 2007.

The independent concept art studio in Toronto works in film, television, gaming and publishing as well as offering Schoolism classes and month-long In-House Workshops in Sainte-Julienne, just outside of Montreal.

Dinner at Omni With Jason and Stacy

It's always enjoyable spending time during SDCC with long-time friends.

Although Jason and Stacy moved last spring from Las Vegas to Nashville, Tennessee, they flew back to San Diego for Comic-Con, which Jason has attended the past 17 years.

After dinner at the Omni, he gave Stacy a surprise gift.   Months earlier he'd commissioned Doug to do an 11 x 17 classic Wonderwoman - Stacy's favorite hero - watercolor original.
