C2E2: Loose-Style Watercolor Originals

Doug's loose-style 10 x 14 and 16 x 20 watercolor originals, rendered on either Arches of France cold press watercolor paper or art board, are always popular at comics-cartoon conventions.

Doug recently finished a loose-style mermaid and a classic Sneyd bunny profile.

Dinner With Friends at Hyatt Regency McCormick Place

Doug and I always enjoy getting together with other artists and catching up with everyone's projects.  At C2E2 we had dinner with fellow artists Stuart Sayger (seated left) and Gavin Smith (seated right) at the hotel's Shor restaurant. 

Restaurant staff joined in the fun of C2E2 and appreciated a personalized sketchbook from Doug.

Photos from SDCC 2014 Will Start Sunday, Sept. 21st

Photos from C2E2 will continue being posted on the blog through Sunday, Sept. 14th; photos from this year's San Diego Comic-Con International will start Sunday, Sept. 21st.

Wrestler Jerry Lawler Visits Doug During C2E2

Jerry "The King" Lawler and his wife stopped by Artist Alley to buy a Marilyn Monroe limited edition print and have Doug do a sketch in Lawler's copy of The Art of Doug Sneyd, a 2012 Eisner Award nominee in the Best Humor Publication category.

He also gave Doug one of his sketchbooks; Lawler, a former world champion holding 168 championships throughout his career, is also a commercial artist, designing numerous graphics for various companies, including WWE.

Lawler has been with the WWE since 1993 and is currently a play-by-play commentator on the USA channel's Monday Night Raw.  He was a Special Entertainment Guest at C2E2 this year.

C2E2 returns to Chicago April 24-26, 2015.

Cincinnati Couple Buys Doug's Artwork at C2E2 Charity Auction

A couple from Cincinnati, who met Doug last September at the Cincinnati Comic Expo, bought his 16 x 20 watercolor original at the third annual C2E2 charity art auction; proceeds from the auction went to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

They stopped by Artist Alley so Doug could personalize the artwork.

Husband Gets A Tattoo Based on Doug's Sketch of Wife from 2010 C2E2

It was quite a surprise when a fan stopped by Artist Alley this year to show Doug a tattoo of his wife Kristin.  It was based on a pencil profile sketch done at the first C2E2 in 2010.

Jane the Phoole Visits Doug in Artist Alley

Jane the Phoole - Milwaukee, Wisconsin's official jester and popular court fool at Renaissance faires throughout the Midwest - stopped by for a visit.  

We met the lively, engaging entertainer at the first C2E2 in 2010 and were delighted she found us in Artist Alley this year.

Red Sonja Watercolor Original

Doug just finished this 11 x 17 original of superheroine Red Sonja - rendered on Arches of France cold press art board using Dr. Ph. Martin's aniline dyes, the same materials he's used for his 450+ Playboy cartoons.  

(His first full-page color cartoon in Playboy was published in the September 1964 issue.)

C2E2: Fan Commissions Sketch in Art Collage

Doug was immediately interested in doing a commission sketch in a fan's art collage because we recognized it as a very clever "take" of the famous conversation piece, The Tribuna of the Uffizi, by Johan Zoffany.

(It was commissioned by one of Zoffany's Royal patrons, Queen Charlotte; the artist travelled to Italy in 1772 and worked for 5 years on the elaborate masterpiece.  There were 25 paintings featured in The Tribuna of the Uffizi, including 6 by Raphael, 3 by Guido Reni, 2 by Titian and 2 by Rubens.)

I took individual photos of the 4 corners of the art collage - upper left then upper right, lower left (look for Doug's classic bunny profile sketch) then lower right. Enjoy!!!
