The Stuart Ng booth - across the aisle from Big Wow Art - is always busy with SDCC attendees looking for rare and out-of-print books on illustration, animation and comic art as well as artists' sketchbooks.

Fan Expo Canada: Preliminaries' Booklets
Doug's Preliminaries booklets offer insight into the development process of designing Playboy cartoons - Doug's first Playboy cartoon appeared in the August 1964 issue - and his signature limited edition 11 x 17 prints. Both pencil and color roughs are featured in the 24-page booklets.
The Christmas in Toronto 16-page booklet reprints 12 commissioned holiday cards Doug painted in the 1960s and 1970s for the Toronto Star, Canada's largest newspaper. The annual Christmas cards were sent to corporate clients.
Hours for the final day of Fan Expo Canada are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Check the convention program for Doug's location in Artist Alley; his final convention appearance is October 8-10 at the New York Comic-Con.

Schoolism's Online Art Classes Draw A Crowd at SDCC
When I visited the Imaginism Studios' booth to say "hello," I learned that Bobby Chiu was demonstrating digital painting techniques at the Schoolism exhibit, a few aisles away. Bobby, an award winning artist and digital painter from Toronto, is the creative director at Schoolism.
Other instructors for the online art classes are: Character Design with Stephen Silver, The Art of Caricature with Jason Seiler, Storyboarding with Kris Pearn and Comicbook Portfolio with Alvin Lee.
If attending Fan Expo Canada this weekend, August 27-29, check the program for Imaginism Studios and Schoolism.

Kei Acedera: One Happy SDCC Exhibitor
Kei Acedera, art director for Imaginism Studios, is always ready to meet and talk with fans of her work - whether at SDCC or this weekend's Fan Expo Canada at the Metro Toronto Convention Center/North Hall. Imaginism Studios, as well as Doug, will exhibit in Artist Alley.
She's a children's book illustrator, character designer and concept artist for films for Disney, Sony and more.
Doug and I met Kei and Bobby Chiu, president of Imaginism Studios in Toronto, on the flight from Toronto to SDCC in July 2007 - our first time at SDCC exhibiting with Big Wow Art.

Doug Sketches Natasha in Unpublished Sneyd
When Doug (center) finished sketching Natasha, Tony Swatton (in red), master blacksmith and owner of Sword and the Stone, stopped by Big Wow Art with actors from Pirates of the Carribean I. Tony's company has provided custom-designed, handcrafted props for the Pirates' movies and other Hollywood productions.
While Doug sketched Natasha, he found out she works at Sword and the Stone in Burbank, California; does modeling; and competes in roller derby competition. Fans who follow the LA Derby Dolls know Natasha as Cannon Doll-X.

Kim, Nick and Fernanda: First-Time Visitors to SDCC Have Doug Personalize Copies of Unpublished Sneyd
Doug and I enjoyed talking with Las Vegas dancers Kim and Nick, who were visiting Comic-Con for the first time. They decided a personalized copy of Unpublished Sneyd would be a great convention souvenir.
Kim is the dance captain of Bite, currently at the Stratosphere; Nick is a dancer in Triumph at the Las Vegas Hilton.
This was also Fernanda's first visit to SDCC; she lives in Sao Paulo, Brazil and works as a reporter for da Ilustrada.

Adam and Jonathan Buy Commissioned Sketches
Adam purchased one of Doug's 9 x 12 personalized pen and ink sketches - all of which are done on 140 Lb, 100% cotton, cold pressed Arches of France watercolor paper.
(Doug will also do commissioned sketches August 27-29 at Fan Expo Canada in Toronto.)
Jonathan, who lives in Seattle, told us it was his first visit to SDCC; he asked Doug to do a 9 x 12 pen and ink sketch of a classic Sneyd girl-next-door.
