Thanksgiving: Playboy Gag Rough Reject

Doug's submitted thousands of gag roughs to Playboy since 1964; of course, not all can be selected for final art and ultimate publication in the magazine.

I thought you might appreciate the humor in this Thanksgiving gag rough reject.

SDCC: Stan Sakai

The oversized 160-page hardcover benefit book - The SAKAI Project:  Artists Celebrate Thirty Years of Usagi Yojimbo - was released on Preview Night, July 23, at SDCC.

Dark Horse published this tribute to Stan and his work and donated all of the proceeds to Stan and Sharon to assist with mounting medical bills.

In describing The SAKAI Project, Amazon.com writes, "The most amazing artists in the world have come together to celebrate 30 years of Stan Sakai's beloved Samuri rabbit, Usagi Yojimbo.  The participating artists bring their own interpretations and their own styles to the subject, making this book a one-of-a-kind to have."

Original artwork donated for the Sakai benefit auction, organized by CAPS (the Comic Art Professional Society), was also featured in the benefit book.  Doug's artwork was reproduced on p. 83.

It's also been fun reading Usagi Yojimbo Sketchbook 11, which Stan personalized for us.

SDCC: Visit From Jenny Klein, Supernatural Writer/Gag Writer for Doug

Over the years, Doug and I have met so many interesting people at SDCC.  Jenny Klein is a favorite who was first a friend and then became one of Doug's gag writers.

We always look forward to her Sunday afternoon visits at the Big Wow Art group.

Assassins Creed - Unity in Park Adjacent to Hilton Gaslamp

Wednesday morning, July 23rd:  from our room on the 8th floor at the Hilton Gaslamp, across the street from the convention center, Doug and I saw a lot of activity in the park across the sidewalk from the entrance to the hotel.

When we returned to the hotel later that afternoon, we learned that it was an off-site obstacle course promoting Assassin's Creed - Unity, a historical action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and the seventh major installment in the Assassin's Creed series.
