August 2008 Playboy Issue: Doug's Shakespeare Cartoon

Doug's full-page color Shakespeare cartoon, p. 75, was also reproduced on p. 176 in The Art of Doug Sneyd, published by Dark Horse Books.  The 248-page hardcover book, now available in a softcover edition, features 270 of Doug's Playboy originals,

caption:  "You did Shakespeare in the park?  Well, last week I did him in the barn."

Check out changes Doug made in the the final art from the approved gag rough (size:  8 1/2 x 11).

The color rough (size:  7 x 9) is typically a xerox of the final pencil rough.

In addition to Doug's full-page color cartoons appearing in Playboy magazine since the September 1964 issue, his work was also selected for Playboy Press Special Edition publications.

Playboy Presents SEX and Other Late-Night Laughs (8 x 10 1/2 format) in 1990 featured Doug's cartoon on the cover; caption:

"Gee, Eldon, doesn't the moon make you feel romantic."

Star Weekly Magazine Illustration

Years before Doug's first full-page color cartoon was published in Playboy (September 1964, p. 205) he had a successful career as an illustrator with major Canadian textbook publishers, the Toronto Star (Canada's highest circulation newspaper) and a number of Canadian magazines.

Doug illustrated Gift from Selena, starting on p. 10, in the November 5, 1960 issue of The Star Weekly Magazine; the illustration was also featured on the cover.

Doug always appreciates seeing how fans frame his work; I wanted to share how a fan from Illinois framed Doug's 11 x 17 limited edition print of Marilyn Monroe.
