Dragon*Con Attendees Get Commissioned Portrait Sketches

While Doug sketched Kimberly (from Orlando), I talked with her fiance Troy.

Amanda (from Atlanta) asked Doug to sketch her dressed as Princess Leia - a great way to remember her 2012 Dragon*Con costume!

Like Doug, this was Melissa's first time in Atlanta attending Dragon*Con.  She was visiting from Rochester, New York.

Tammy and Charles (from Ft. Campbell, KY) are Dragon*Con "veterans."  The couple's two sons now serve in the military, but Tammy told me she can remember for years bringing the boys to Kid-Con, a former Dragon*Con activity.

Jennifer (from Atlanta) has been attending Dragon*Con the past 5 years.

More Photos from Orbital Comics/London: Life Drawing Masterclass

Before the Life Drawing Masterclass at Orbital Comics November 16th, Chris Thompson (left) took Doug and me to dinner at the Salisbury Pub, a Victorian pub landmark on St. Martins Lane/Leicester Square.  We had a delicious, fun dinner; the Salisbury is popular with tourists, the pre-theatre crowd and locals.

Chris - the U.K. Editor-Comics & Gaming, First Comics News - organized the Life Drawing Masterclass (Nov. 16th) and Doug Sneyd in Conversation (Nov. 23rd) at Orbital Comics.

Here are some additional photos from Doug's Masterclass, featuring popular U.K. model Manko.

The Masterclass was limited to 25 participants and sold out in 3 days.

The second event at Orbital Comics was Nov. 23rd; Chris moderated a "conversation" with Doug and U.K. artist/curator Jason Atomic.

Original Artwork: Blond in "Little Black Dress"

Original artwork, like this 11 x 17 classic Sneyd blond, is available on Doug's CAF Premium Gallery or at comics-cartoon conventions - see blog Upcoming Events for information.

Artwork is rendered on Arches of France acid-free, 100% cotton art board using Dr. Ph. Martin's aniline dyes.

Sisters Tara and Erin Make Dragon*Con FUN With Costumes

Wednesday night in the Hyatt Regency lobby we met sisters Erin (left) and Tara (right), who visited Doug's booth every day during Dragon*Con - but in different costumes!

Thursday morning the ladies visited Doug's booth as Marilyn and Audrey.

The Nashville, TN ladies "packed heat" the next day.

Doug works on a portrait sketch of Tara.

Erin also decides a portrait sketch by Doug would be a great souvenir of Dragon*Con 2012.

Erin (left) and Tara (right) kept their promise to visit Doug one last time - and again with different costumes!

Doug Chats With Bunnies

It's only natural for a Playboy cartoonist to chat with gorgeous bunnies during our stay at the Hyatt Regency during Dragon*Con.

Orbital Comics/London: Life Drawing Masterclass

During a November 14-28 visit to London, Doug conducted a Life Drawing Masterclass at Orbital Comics, located in the heart of Leicester Square.  The November 16th event featured Manko, a popular U.K. model; it was coordinated by Chris J. Thompson of Orbital Comics.

Attendees to the sold out event were professional artists, animators, graphics designers, etc.

Doug and I met Chris a few years ago on an Air Canada flight from Toronto to San Diego.  He was covering the 5-day convention for First Comics News; Doug was exhibiting with the Big Wow Art group.

Doug organized the evening into three poses to allow ample time for drawing, meeting the artists and doing critiques of their work.

The second pose of the evening; both artist and model are pleased!

The final pose of the evening.

Amanda, Katherine, Ann and Rose: Portrait Sketches Keep Doug Busy During 4-Day Convention

While Doug sketched Amanda (from Atlanta), they talked about the Alberta Tattoo & Arts Festival in Calgary.

This was Katherine's first time attending Dragon*Con; Doug joked that it was his too!  Katherine and her husband drove to Atlanta from Gainesville, FL

Ann (from Tennessee) had Doug sketch her in The Art of Doug Sneyd, featuring 270 of his 450+ Playboy cartoons.  The 248-page book, published by Dark Horse Comics, was a 2012 Eisner Award nominee in the Best Humor Publication category.

Rose is taking her portrait sketch back to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
