Doug's 1980 News Cartoons Focus on Ronald Reagan's Bid for President

Several candidates during the third Republican debate, hosted by CNBC at the University of Colorado Boulder on October 28th,  invoked the name of Ronald Reagan.   This will, no doubt, also occur during the Tuesday, November 10th debate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, hosted by the Fox Business Network.

Doug's news cartoons - starting in the mid-1960s, appeared daily in newspapers across North America for nearly 20 years - naturally focused on the 1980 Presidential election.  George H. Bush and Ronald Reagan - a charismatic actor who starred in more than 50 films and served 2 terms as Governor of California - were the leading Republican candidates; Reagan received the nomination and selected Bush to be his running mate.

The Reagan-Bush ticket carried 44 states to incumbent Democrat Jimmy Carter's 6 states.
