Big Wow Comic Fest: Monday Wine Tasting/BBQ at Savannah-Chanelle Vineyards

Big Wow Comic Fest guest artists, their families and friends were also treated to a Monday wine tasting and BBQ, held at Savannah-Chanelle Vineyards in Saratoga, California.

Although the boutique winery, established in 1892, is next door to Silicon Valley, it's a spectacular site "tucked among redwood groves along the historic "Chaine d'Or" high in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

We all had a wonderful day!!!

Big Wow Comic Fest: Playboy Cartoonists Dean & Doug

Doug's first comics-cartoon convention was May 2007 in San Jose.  Dean and Doug, who had not previously met, were assigned adjacent tables in Artist Alley; it was a great opportunity to discuss their projects, careers and experiences as cartoonists.

The two were also assigned adjacent tables in Artist Alley at the 2014 Big Wow Comic Fest in San Jose, California.

Since that first convention in 2007, Doug and I meet Dean and Barbara for dinner during the San Diego Comic-Con International, where both Playboy cartoonists exhibit.

Ice Block Video "Goes Live" Monday, March 16th

The Rogues' Gallery:  Conversations from the 2014 San Diego ComicCon goes live Monday, March 16, at www.vimeo.com/122269568; the 28-minute Ice Block video features interviews with Stan Sakai, Sergio Aragones, Jeff Smith, MC Frontalot, James Rolfe, Doug Sneyd, Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik, Bill Plympton, Sarah Wilkinson and Larry Kaufman.

JJ Koester - Ice Block Co-founder, Producer - focused interview questions on how the artists approached their work and how the veteran cartoonists have seen the industry change over the course of their careers.  For example, Sergio began his career at Mad Magazine in the early 1960s; Stan's been publishing Usagi Yojimbo since 1984; Doug's full-page color cartoons have been published in Playboy since the September 1964 issue.

Ice Block, media specialists in Tokyo who focus on the creation of unique multi-media content, describes The Rogues' Gallery as offering "insight into the minds of great artists from a wide array of fields in the creative arts."

Playboy Interview with George C. Scott: December 1980 Issue

Killing Patton, on the New York Times Best Seller list for over 5 months, focuses on the final year of World War II and the December 1945 death - accident or assassination??? - of General George Patton.

George C. Scott starred in the 1970 movie Patton, which won 7 Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

So, when I noticed "George C. Scott Interviewed:  A Probing Conversation with the Last Angry Man in Show Business" on the cover of the December 1980 issue of Playboy, I had to check it out.

If the Playboy rabbit had to endure this year's brutal winter in the Midwest and Northeast, I'm not sure he would be smiling.
