After Doug returned mid-April to his home/studio in Orillia, Ontario, he was asked to participate in TCAF - the Toronto Comic Arts Festival - held May 8-9 at the spacious Toronto Reference Library, 789 Yonge Street, adjacent to Toronto's university district.
The free 2-day comics event featured several hundred authors, artists and publishers from Canada, England, Europe and Japan and is patterned after comics festivals like Angouleme, Harlem and the Small Press Expo.
The first TCAF, with approximately 70 creators in attendance, was held in March 2003. In 2007 about 6,000 people attended and in 2009 TCAF drew a crowd of nearly 10,500. Before TCAF moved to the Toronto Reference Library, it was held at the Victoria College building on the University of Toronto and on the grounds of Honest Ed's department store.
