If Attending Comic-Con July 21-25, Stop by Big Wow Art (Booth 4903) and Meet Doug

Comic-Con is a fantastic 5-day opportunity to meet artists and buy original artwork - like Doug's 11 x 17 winking bunny in orange, rendered with Dr. Ph. Martin's aniline dyes on Peterboro HI-ART Watercolor Board, 100% rag by Arches of France.  She's also available as an 11 x 17 limited edition print, 1-25.

Doug will also do commissioned B & W pencil/ink sketches during the convention and personalize copies of his 52-page book, Unpublished Sneyd

(Daily blog entries featuring photos from Comic-Con will start Sunday, August 1st.)

9 x 12 Sketch Available at Comic-Con

Because Doug uses Dr. Ph. Martin's Synchromatic Transparent Watercolor for his work, he doesn't do color sketches at conventions. However, a number of collectors have asked him about commissioned color sketches and that was one reason why he decided to do this lovely lady in his studio and bring it to San Diego. It's done with aniline dyes on Arches of France 100% cotton, 140 lb, acid-free paper.

Check the program for Big Wow Art booth numbers if interested in having Doug do a commissioned pencil and ink sketch during the 5-day Comic-Con.

It's Summer! Bikinis Rule!

Doug decided his lovely lady would look great in a bikini; he can add more details to this 9 x 12 sketch while he's at the convention July 21-25, exhibiting with Big Wow Art.

Another Sketch To "Sweeten" at Comic-Con

One of several pencil and ink sketches Doug is blocking in his studio; each can be easily personalized and completed during the 5-day convention.

It's a great way for fans to own an original Sneyd!

Another Sketch for Comic-Con, July 21-25

The 5-day San Diego convention is a busy time for attendees and exhibiting artists so Doug has done preliminary blocking for a number of B & W sketches, generally either 9 x 12 or 10 x 14 on 140 lb., acid-free 100% cotton Arches of France paper.

If attending Comic-Con, stop by the Big Wow Art booth and ask Doug about a commissioned sketch  of one of his lovely ladies.  He can easily "sweeten" one from his sketch portfolio or do a new subject.

Doug Works on Sketches for Comic-Con

Personalized sketches of Doug's lovely ladies are always popular with convention attendees, and because the 5-day Comic-Con is always so busy, he decided to block out some sketches prior to Preview Night - Wednesday, July 21, from 6-9 p.m.  By doing this, he can finish "sweetening" the sketch during the 5-day convention at the San Diego Convention Center.

Doug is again exhibiting with Big Wow Art; check the Comic-Con program for the group's booth assignment.

In addition to doing commissioned sketches during the July 21-25 convention, Doug also has 11 x 17 limited edition prints, preliminary sketchbooks, personalized copies of his 52-page book Unpublished Sneyd and Playboy originals for sale.

Over the years TCAF - the Toronto Comics Arts Festival - has grown and obviously achieved the goal of "promoting the literary and artistic merits of comic books and graphic novels."

Doug Exhibits at 2-Day Toronto Comic Arts Festival

After Doug returned mid-April to his home/studio in Orillia, Ontario, he was asked to participate in TCAF - the Toronto Comic Arts Festival - held May 8-9 at the spacious Toronto Reference Library, 789 Yonge Street, adjacent to Toronto's university district.

The free 2-day comics event featured several hundred authors, artists and publishers from Canada, England, Europe and Japan and is patterned after comics festivals like Angouleme, Harlem and the Small Press Expo.

The first TCAF, with approximately 70 creators in attendance, was held in March 2003. In 2007 about 6,000 people attended and in 2009 TCAF drew a crowd of nearly 10,500. Before TCAF moved to the Toronto Reference Library, it was held at the Victoria College building on the University of Toronto and on the grounds of Honest Ed's department store.

Happy Fourth of July

Playboy always runs holiday-related cartoons and over the years Doug has submitted hundreds of holiday gag roughs.

Naturally, not all will be selected for final art and publication in the magazine, but we thought our blog readers would appreciate the humor in this gag rough "reject."
