Light Cycle Draws Crowds at Fan Expo Canada

Doug and I got to Fan Expo Canada before the doors opened to the public on Sunday, August 30. I wanted to get a good picture of the gleaming black, life-size light cycle that was a highlight of the 3-day convention for sci-fi fans, who are eagerly anticipating the 3-D sequel, Tron Legacy.

Fan Expo Artists Meet for Dinner Saturday Evening

Imaginism Studios unofficially organized a great dinner at Jack Astor's in downtown Toronto Saturday evening, August 29 for nearly 20 artists exhibiting at Fan Expo Canada. (left) Bobby Chiu, president of Imaginism Studios, and Kei Acedera, art director, invited Doug and me to join the group; we first met Bobby and Kei on a flight to Comic-Con in July 2007.

Stephen Silver flew in to Toronto from Simi Valley, California to exhibit at Fan Expo Canada and joined the group of artists and me, Heidi Hutson, for dinner Saturday evening.

Doug Personalized Sketches, Limited Edition Prints and Books

In addition to buying a personalized copy of Unpublished Sneyd, Arthur had Doug do a pencil sketch.

John with a personalized Wonderwoman limited edition print, which Doug debuted at the 15th annual Fan Expo Canada.

Jan drove in from Brantford, Ontario.

Bruce Coutridge (from Burlington, Ontario) does custom illustration and design as well as producing Pride Junkie, a comic book for youngsters 8-14 years old.

Janicka Made Her Chainmail Costume

Janika (from Ottawa) stopped by Sunday, August 30 to show Doug her original chainmail costume, which she made after taking classes at South Tower Armouring Guild in Metcalfe, Ontario.

Janicka first stopped by Doug's booth on Saturday, August 29 and talked with him about that day's original costume.

Ladies Pose for Sketches

Doug personalized Andrew's copy of Unpublished Sneyd with a profile sketch of wife Alison. The couple lives in Toronto.

While Doug was sketching Tara (from Buffalo, New York) in Unpublished Sneyd, she told him she's been a long-time fan of Playboy because her father had a subscription.

Doug Meets Brazilian Comic Book Artist Ivan Reis

Doug and Ivan Reis were both featured guests in Artist Alley at Fan Expo Canada; Doug's personalized limited edition print went back to Brazil with Ivan.

To describe Ivan Reis as a Brazilian comic book artist is an understatement. He has an international reputation, starting with work on titles such as Ghost, The Mask and Xena. In 2004 he became an exclusive DC Comics artist. Recent work includes Green Lantern and Blackest Night.
